The City of Twinsburg recognizes the importance of an interconnected community.  Several years ago, AMATS (Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study) funded a Connecting Communities grant that   assisted in addressing gaps in the City’s trail network and in developing sustainable transportation choices for all residents. To accomplish this goal, the City of Twinsburg undertook a connectivity study and identified the need to address the following objectives:

    •    Improve connections to accomplish greater trail utilization rates

    •    Enhance and develop Twinsburg’s identity as a bicycle friendly community

    •    Overcome auto-dependent suburban land patterns to develop a network that supports non-motorized transportation

    •    Create safer alternative transportation options along high-volume arterial roadways

    •    Close gaps within the existing trail network to provide stronger connections to community facilities

Implementation of these objectives, particularly along several stretches of SR 91, would be both difficult and costly.  Constraints such as limited right-of-way widths and obstacles resulting from both natural and manmade features add extraordinary costs to construction of pedestrian facilities along portions of Darrow Road.  More specifically, the cost of installing pedestrian facilities along SR 91 from Post Road to Miktarian Parkway has been previously explored by the City.  Funding of this high-cost project and funding to implement related objectives identified in the Twinsburg Connectivity Plan continues to be a challenge relative to current City revenues.  The City is currently exploring development of a trailhead at Post and Darrow Roads with improvements to the existing trail at this location.
